Asian Consumer and Family Economics Association (ACFEA)

Chapter 1: General Provisions

 

Article 1 (Name)
The organization shall be named the “Asian Consumer and Family Economics Association,” abbreviated as ACFEA.

 

Article 2 (Nature and Purpose)
ACFEA is a non-profit, conference-based international academic association with the following objectives:
• To promote the development and exchange of research on consumer and family economics in the Asia-Pacific region and globally;
• To provide a regular platform for academic conferences, fostering dialogue and collaboration among scholars;
• To encourage empirical research, theoretical innovation, and the dissemination of policy recommendations;
• To expand the influence and connections of the Asia-Pacific academic community worldwide.

 

Article 3 (Location)
The Association has no fixed country of registration; the Secretariat is established by the Secretary General of the current term. At present, the office is located on the 14th floor of the South Wing, General Building, National Chengchi University, Taiwan.

Chapter 2: Membership

 

Article 4 (Types of Members)
• Regular Members: Individuals involved in academic research, education, or practice.
• Student Members: Students pursuing studies in related fields.
• Honorary Members: Individuals with distinguished contributions to the Association, nominated by the Executive Committee.

 

Article 5 (Membership Rights)
• Participation in all ACFEA conferences and activities;
• Eligibility for nomination to the presidency and other official roles (excluding student members);
• Right to submit and present papers at conferences, newsletters, or special issues.

Chapter 3: Organization and Governance

 

Article 6 (Biennial Conference)
• The Association holds an international academic conference every two years (or every three years when necessary).
• The location is selected by the Executive Committee and organized by a local host institution.
• The conference serves as the primary academic and administrative event, including paper presentations, panel sessions, and the General Assembly.

 

Article 7 (Executive Committee)
• Composition: Includes representatives from each biennial conference and core members, including the President, Vice Presidents, Secretary General, and other committee members.
• Term: Two years, renewable once.
• Responsibilities:
o Organize the biennial conference and related activities;
o Decide on the direction, finances, and publications of the Association;
o Promote international collaboration and resource integration.

 

Article 8 (President and Vice Presidents)
• Nominated by the Executive Committee, the President oversees the Association's affairs and acts as its official spokesperson.
• Vice Presidents may be appointed to assist with international affairs, regional coordination, or publications.

 

Article 9 (Secretariat)
• The Secretariat is established at a location designated by the President and handles administrative support, member communication, and website maintenance.
• The Secretary General is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Executive Committee.

Chapter 4: Finance and Publications

 

Article 10 (Funding Sources)
The Association’s funds come from:
• Conference registration fees;
• Donations or sponsorships;
• Publication revenues;
• Other lawful income.

 

Article 11 (Publications)
• The Association may publish conference proceedings, monographs, or special journal issues in collaboration with partners.
• All submissions are subject to peer review and copyright policies.

Chapter 5: Supplementary Provisions

 

Article 12 (Amendments)
This Charter may be amended with approval by at least two-thirds of the Executive Committee and ratified by the General Assembly.

 

Article 13 (Dissolution)
In case of dissolution, the decision must be approved by the General Assembly, and all remaining assets and records shall be handled in accordance with the law.

Note: Guidelines for Rotating Biennial Conferences

 

• The biennial conference should ideally be held every two years, rotating among Asia-Pacific countries;
• Hosting is encouraged to be undertaken by institutions with strong organizational capacity and international networks;
• The host institution should submit a conference proposal to the Executive Committee at least one year in advance
